വിഷുപ്പക്ഷിയൊന്നെൻ മുറ്റത്തെത്തി    വിരുന്നുവന്നൊരീ കളിത്തോഴൻ,            അക്കരെ നിൽക്കുന്ന പെൺകിടാവോ    അവനെ നോക്കി കാത്തിരുന്നു.              

കണ്ണന്റെ നാമം ചൊല്ലിയാർത്തവൾ    കണിമലർ ചൂടി പാർത്തിരുന്നു,            

വിഷുവിൻ പുലരി പിറക്കാതെ-                                യീ വിഷുപ്പക്ഷിചാരത്തെത്തുകില്ല.         

കണ്ണനെ കണ്ടെൻ പെണ്ണിന്റെ                             കണ്ണിൽ കണ്ടതെൻ രൂപം മാത്രം,                            കണി കണ്ടുണർന്നൊരാ പുലരിയിൽ                    മുന്നിലായ് നിന്നതു ഞാൻ മാത്രമായിരുന്നു.

The Vishu Bird

The Vishu bird arrived in the courtyard,

A playmate who came as a guest,

While the maiden standing on the other shore,

Waited, watching for him.

​Chanting Krishna’s name with devotion,

She waited, adorned with golden flowers,

For the Vishu bird shall not draw near,

Until the dawn of Vishu is born.

​In Krishna, my girl sought a vision,

But saw only my form in his stead,

In that dawn, waking to the first sight,

It was I alone who stood before her.

​I am no Guru, no Prophet, nor Lord,

Just an orphaned bird seeking its nest,

This simpleton who wandered off his path
