**A Tribute to Heritage and Legacy**
This photograph captures my maternal grand father, **Assanarupillai Peer Mohammad Ghazzali. He passed away in1959✅🌹Assanaru Pillai Peer Mohamad is a descendant of the revered Hazrat Imam Ghazali (RA) from Tus Persia( now Iran)🌹Imam Ghazali (1058–1111) born in Iran, he also known for his profound influence on Islamic philosophy, theology, and spirituality, particularly during his time as head of the Nizamiyya University in Baghdad.
Along with his forefathers, he held the distinguished honor of serving the royal family of Travancore. Our ancestors, originally from Kottar in Kanyakumari district, settled near the Palayam Mosque in Trivandrum over 400 years ago. Members of our lineage once held prestigious military ranks in the Travancore kingdom, including the rare privilege to command chariots drawn by *twin horses*. Some even served as **Aides-de-Camp (ADC)** to His Highness Sree Moolam Thirunal Maharaja of Travancore.
🔴 ** Story Behind This Photograph**
This rare image, taken in **1955**, features my father, **A. Mohamad Khan** (then Station Superintendent of Southern Railway, Trivandrum Central), during the inauguration of the iconic **Taj Hotel at Palayam Junction**. He developed the photo himself using a **Japanese Yashica camera** with a **75mm f/5.6 zoom lens** and **CS201 flash**—a testament to his passion for photography.
🛑Understanding Sufi Traditions:
🛑 Murid vs. Hereditary Legacy
What is a Murid?
A Murid (مُرِيد) is one who consciously chooses a Sufi spiritual guide (*sheikh*), embraces discipleship, and strives toward spiritual perfection. These seekers often come from diverse social backgrounds, dedicating themselves to rigorous spiritual practices and Sufi teachings.
🛑Hereditary Sufi Lineage
Those born into a Sufi saint’s family inherit centuries of spiritual wisdom and tradition. While they carry the legacy of their ancestors, spiritual fulfillment is not guaranteed by lineage alone. Like the *Murid*, they too must undertake personal spiritual discipline to attain enlightenment.
🛑Key Differences
- A Murid is forged by choice and devotion; hereditary lineage is a **birthright**.
- Both require spiritual rigor, but a *Murid* receives **direct guidance** from a living master, while hereditary followers inherit a cultural and spiritual legacy🤾 In Islamic Sufism, both paths hold profound significance—one shaped by conscious pursuit, the other by ancestral grace. Yet, both demand unwavering dedication to the soul’s journey.
